CRA’s PM River Management Plan

Kim Balke with the Conservation Resource Alliance (CRA), on behalf of the Pere Marquette Watershed Council, has completed updating the Pere Marquette River Management Plan.   The State of Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) approved Ms. Balke’s updated Plan in December 2011, indicating that it met the criteria for (1) the state Clean Michigan Initiative (CMI) Nonpoint Source Pollution Control program; and (2) the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Section 319 program of the federal Clean Water Act.

This approval will now allow the Pere Marquette Watershed Council, CRA and others to apply for funding from these two governmental programs for a ten year period (the life of the Plan).   In 2021 the Plan will most likely need updating again to maintain eligibility for both CMI and Section 319 funds.

The Plan is very comprehensive.  Chapter 1 Executive Summary contains general information and characteristics of the watershed, the challenges of managing  such a large area, biological assessments, identification of critical ares, outline of a managment plan and implementation of the plan.

A copy of the entire Pere Marquette River Management Plan is also available for your viewing by clicking on the link.  This is a very large document, nearly 200 pages, and will require time to load onto your computer.  In appendices to  the Plan, Ms. Balke included reports and a number of maps as exhibits.  These are available for your review as well by clicking on the links below.  Again, please be patient while they load.
