Large Woody Debris
Conservation Resource Alliance (CRA) and the Pere Marquette Watershed are partnering with the United States Forest Service (USFS) to complete an up to date survey of the existing large woody debris structures through out the Pere Marquette river between Gleason’s Landing and Bowman’s Bridge. During 2010 two floats down the river provided data to locate each structure with GIS locations and a survey of the status. A spreadsheet was created by Kim Balke of CRA to summarize the structures and propose new locations, re-construction of existing, and removal of locations that are no longer producing the result desired in the river.

Work has begun between Bowman’s Bridge and Rainbow Rapids. Kanouse is setting posts, floating logs and staging of materials during the month of October 2011. The first batch of sites was completed by winter, with the remaining sites in planned for 2012. The Kinney Creek Club has donated trees for use in Phase II of the project.
